Improving Our Community In Cook County, One Person At A Time
Friends of Recovery, United’s primary mission is to provide opportunity by supporting the needs of participants in the problem-solving courts in Cook County, Illinois. Providing small tangible items and services not supported by other means.
Recovery from addiction starts with a single step. Once addicted individuals realize they need help and understand that there is hope, they can open the doors to a fulfilling, restorative journey. But, it takes a team to stand beside a person as they work toward recovery. It takes community and an outpouring of support from people who truly care and understand addiction. Those involved in drug court treatment programs are six times more likely to stay in treatment long enough to get better. That translates to greater potential for long-term recovery, reduced recidivism and a smoother transition to community life.
Reducing Crime and Justice Costs for Communities
Treatment courts significantly reduce drug use and crime and are more cost-effective than any other proven criminal justice strategy. Studies have shown that reductions in crime last at least three years and can endure for more than 14 years as a long-term result of individual drug courts. In addition to reduced crime, communities benefit from a greater economic benefit when they seek to treat offenders with co-occurring mental health problems and substance use disorders. Drug courts produce cost savings ranging from $4,000 to more than $12,000 per client.
Our vision is to restore our community by strengthening the effectiveness and reach of the Cook County Problem-Solving Courts. We believe in providing hope through inclusiveness and opportunity for all.
Our goal is to increase awareness and increase funding.
